City Scape

Richard first began painting city scapes whilst living in York Uk. Depressed by the trivial touristy pictures of the city he took on the major landscapes and over the years tackled them through his own experimental methods of drawing and painting. In the last few years he has moved South and now is using the same ideas in London and his local area. The styles are highly experimental the starting point is drawings and paintings made on location which are sometimes developed into very  large scale painting.

I find the urban environment confusing. Full of noise, movement, underground cables, mobile phone transmissions, gasses, lives hidden, museums, dustbins, private stories, I want the paintings to be about this

Forbidden Zone

Richard lived in Famagusta, Cyprus 50 years ago. No one has lived there since then. He has recently been able to revisit the deserted streets to draw and paint.

Studio work

These large scale works reflect on the experience of revisiting the Forbidden Zone.

New York Time Square

I have travelled around the world through out the years and painted where i went

london Night scene

Ive often been interested in the movement of the city. intrigued by the colours of dusk where artificial light and natural merge creating a new world

St Pauls

Along with more abstract approaches this series uses a more child like approach where figures from the sketches plus images from the imagination are added to evoke the real world of the city beyond the photographic appearance

impasto works

These small oil paintings use thick oil paint manipulated by pallette knives, sticks, fingers, old brushes, they can take years toi slowly build up

Lucid Blurs

These paintings are evolved from time lapse photography and video footage. they leave an impressionist vision of the city. stained on raw canvas
